Problem: Deskware is often highly utilitarian and does not support a rewarding working environment.
Solution: Bold ‘designer’ deskware that allows work to determine its visual impact, allowing the environment to become physically clearer as more work is done.
The Brief
Whilst investigating the design of deskware, I came to realise the unique opportunity it provides to actively reward productivity. Traditional deskwares solid forms dominate the workspace ensuring that while documents, letters, etc may be managed and moved on, the desk remains no clearer for it.
The Approach
The Empty Desk-Ware range is designed to minimise its impact on the workspace, allowing the work itself to define the objects visibility. As such, as work is completed the desk becomes physically emptier, visually responding to the user’s productivity.
The secondary advantage of this design format is the significantly reduced manufacturing, packaging, & shipping costs. Compared to traditional designs these pieces use less material, require a single manufacturing process (90o bending), and are up to 86% more efficient to package.
